City Guide: Tokyo

Tokyo

My semi-annual trips to Tokyo is what keeps my inspiration juices flowing. The energy I get from this city is like no other. Here are some of the places I managed to visit on my last busy trip.

SHOPPING

I always visit the golden triangle – Shibuya, Harajuku, Shinjuku – for all my craziest fashion needs and just to get a general feel of the current state of trends. I already get inspired by the vibrancy of the street style. There are many places we sell our collections in these areas, including two of the best department stores Seibu Shibuya and Isetan Shinjuku, so it´s always mixing work with pleasure.

KOENJI

Every time I’m in Tokyo, I try to find new places. Koenji, just a stop from Shinjuku, is probably the coolest neighbourhood in Tokyo at the moment. It’s home to an expanding creative scene. You can shop for vintage clothes and vinyl records, go to live music bars and just generally walk around and get immersed in culture and creativity on every step.

SAKURA

This was my fourth time in Tokyo during Spring. I had seen cherry blossoms before but I had never been in Tokyo during the peak blossoming season. Now I know what the hype is about! My greatest experience to view the cherry blossoms was in Tokyo Midtown. It´s especially powerful to look at the fluffy trees from above. It reminded me of seeing first snow of the season.

MIRAIKAN SIENCE MUSEUM

It´s no surprise that I am a huge fan of robots. Visiting Miraikan had been on my to-do list for a long time. Loved seeing Asimo´s demonstration and chatting to tiny robots. Of course until the cute robots called me old…

Caribbean Dreaming Pop-Up

It was my 8th time in Tokyo but this time was extra special – I was finally there during the peak cherry blossoming. And I must say nothing really compares to these fluffy white and pink petals. Apparently Sakura season is bigger than Christmas in Japan. And now I know what the hype is about!

The main reason for my visit to Tokyo this time was our pop-up at Omotesando Hills Rocket at the heart of Tokyo’s most prestigious shopping street Omotesando. This is the legendary street where Gucci, Chanel, Loewe et al. have their flagships.

We had a fabulous opening party. Was so great seeing all my Japanese friends (thank you for my beautiful flowers and gifts!) and also meeting so many new faces. The pop-up’s theme was “Caribbean Dreaming” after our SS17 campaign. Guests were posing with our campaign stars dolphin and flamingo while sipping Litchi Blue cocktails. We had loads of fun as you can see from the gallery below.

Until next time Tokyo!

Japan Christmas Campaign

On my trip to Tokyo in October we shot the first ever Christmas campaign especially for Japan. What made it extra fun for me was that the entire team was Japanese. The talented photographer Sayo Nagase, stylist Nina Utashiro who also happens to work as the fashion editor of I-D Japan magazine, Sachiko Omori the hair wizard of Tokyo, and our beautiful model Yuka Mizuhara who amongst others has graced the cover of Nylon Japan. Here´s the final result! Plus a few exclusive behind the scenes shots from the day.

Enjoy!

Last week vol. 1: Tokyo Pop-Up

The first time I visited Tokyo, the La Foret department store became my favourite shopping destination. I guess the best word to describe it is “kawaii” (cute) but you can always find some cool designs there that you can also wear outside the craziness of Japan.

So who would have thought that 4 years later we´d be opening our very own store there? Below we´ve put together a gallery of the opening party. Thank you to everyone who came to support us!

The pop-up will be open until the 31st March on floor 2. Go check it out when in Tokyo!

Kriss’s Top 5 in 2015

Looking back at 2015. Here´s Kriss´s top 5 most memorable events of the year.

SIL

Paris Lingerie Trade show
A great kick off to 2015 was the Salon International de la Lingerie trade show in January. A must for all lingerie brands and buyers, this show has the best of the best. It’s not only great to see all the buyers from around the world but also to catch up with all the other designers and brands.
Kriss Soonik will be returning to Paris 23rd-25th January. You can find us at booth G89.

Isetan

Isetan Lingerie Pop-up & Cannabis Event in Tokyo
Tokyo was definitely the busiest place for us this year. We had many different events in Japan, the most memorable being the Cannabis Cherry Blossom event in March, where I made my DJ debut, and our pop-up shop at Tokyo’s most prestigious department store – Isetan.

2016 looks to be even busier there. And we might also get outside of Tokyo!

secret-brunch

Secret Brunch Fashion Show in London
We don’t host fashion shows very often but this Halloween we teamed up with Secret Brunch and threw a supersexy show. Our gorgeous catwomen were accompanied by a huge daytime performance and party that’s hard to forget. I hope we´ll get to do something similar in 2016.

Christmas Campaign
What happens when you put 5 grown up women in a room with foil balloons? The best day ever, that´s what! One of the most amazing photoshoots we´ve ever done! I would like to thank the entire team – photographer Sandra Palm, make-up and hair stylist Nele Pandis, stylist Johanna Eenmaa, and of course the gorgeous model Mari-Liis Roots. I am sure this team will do more memorable work in the coming year.

tallinn-event

Christmas Press Event and Live Window in Tallinn
Beginning of December we hosted a small press event at our Estonian stockist Naughty Beauty (Ulakas Kaunitar in Estonian). Completely unplanned we asked 2 of our gorgeous models to stand in the window for some photos – next moment we were stopping traffic outside and the Estonian press was full of images of these beauties. Quite a cool end to the year! Spontaneity rocks!

Here´s to an exciting 2016!

Visual Diary: Tokyo

My fourth trip to Tokyo was quite amazing. A lot has changed since my last visit in 2014 – Kriss Soonik is getting more famous in Japan and meeting so many of our fans was an unforgettable experience.

It was a very busy week packed with events and meetings. I got to DJ at our very fun event at Cannabis boutique in Harajuku´s coolest department store La Foret. I received a 40-minute sales training in Japanese at Japan´s biggest department store Isetan before spending an afternoon meeting customers. Nylon Japan did a photoshoot and interview with me for their May issue. And we participated at the PR01 trade show presenting the next AW15 collection.

Next week we´ll bring you all the pictures from the Cannabis event but firstly here´s a little photo diary of the trip.
