Spring/Summer trend: Bodysuits

The bodysuit trend was already going strong in the 90s with iconic supermodels Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford and Grace Jones wearing them on and off duty.

With the revival of everything nineties, the body has come back to stay. Still appearing on the catwalk, still loved and now worn by the new it-girls Emily Ratajkowski, Kendall Jenner and Lily Aldridge to name a few.

The bodysuit is no longer just for wearing under your clothes – it is interchangeable with your favourite top, only it’s even more comfortable and you don’t have to worry about keeping it tucked into you skirt or jeans.
We challenge you to find an item in your wardrobe that will work as hard for you while looking as entirely easy.

Choose a basic body-hugging jersey style for effortless daytime dressing or layer a seductive lace number under your evening outfit, the options are endless.

Meet Johanna Eenma

Meet the talented stylist who we’ve worked with for our Disco campaign, AW16 lookbook and most recently a catwalk show. Oh, and did we mention that she has the most awesome voice as well? Quite a combination!
Read for yourself 😉

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I was actually just trying to figure out what to write in my Instagram bio. As I divide myself between music (singing in band called I Wear* Experiment), styling (Fashion Editor at MOOD magazine and freelance), photography and sometimes illustrations. So .. it seems that I am a creative-cat.

How did you end up working with Kriss?
I think it was (photographer) Sandra Palm, who invited me to do your Christmas-New Year-Valentines-Birthday campaign.

How would you describe your personal style?
Black, practical and comfortable, with some weird elements added. But I intend to go crazy when touring with my band.

What song do you have on repeat right now?
Iiris – Hope.

Top 3 places in the world.
My downtown apartment, my parents’ house under pine trees in a quiet suburb in Tallinn and .. I really love riding around in a car, to anywhere.

What’s your personal favorite piece from Kriss’s collections and why?
I really love colour, but not on myself that much. So I’ll have to pick the black Kristiina Suspender Top – because of the pompom!

Kriss’s SS16 favourite: Bubbles

I must be honest – when I first saw the fabric I had mixed feelings. It looked cute, sexy, romantic and … well, a bit weird. But after a week when I took another look at the fabric, I fell in love with its playfulness. How cool are these little circles!? They look like tiny bubbles! I must admit that the whole design process just made me long for a hot bath and that´s how the range got it´s name. Bubbles.

My favourite item from the range is the black Bubbles Soft-Cup Bra. It feels so light when you’re wearing it and the pattern is just so much fun next to the skin.

The Suspender Story

Suspenders have been at the heart of the Kriss Soonik brand from the very beginning. But it has also become clear that we don´t use them like other lingerie brands would.

One of out signature pieces – the Kristel Suspender Top – is all about making the suspenders visible. It´s more about having the suspenders as a styling detail than a functional stocking holder. Wearing them casually on top of your jeans is anything but über sexy. It´s cool and unexpected.

And this was what took me on a journey to find other unexpected places for the suspender detail.

Pictures21

In our AW15 collection the Claire top with the suspender and button combo made the first test result public. But already then I knew there could be more to it. After all, this combination works well for a top but not for a bra. So I kept on testing.

Finally the eureka moment dawned on me – you can attach the suspender clip to the metal ring. And voila! Our SS16 Spiderweb Suspender Bra was born.

Pictures24

What´s great is that not only is it functional under clothes, you can also criss-cross the straps at the back, making the bra even more versatile.

Now that we´ve found this combination, we´re definitely not stopping there. Our AW16 collection is filled with gold suspender details for bras, bodies and slips. Here´s a little teaser what to look forward to 😉

Meet our talented illustrator: Kati Stimmer

This week we launched The Cat range – a few of our key pieces decorated with original illustrations. If you were wondering who that talented designer behind these unique illustrations is, you have come to the right place 😉
Meet Kati Stimmer.

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Hi! I’m a graduate of Fashion Design who is madly into handmade, nature, food and life. Main focus of my life right now is dreaming up knits at Studio HÕBE, besides that I’m doing freelance illustrations and making some garment magic happen.

How did you end up working with Kriss?

The year was 2014 when I got an email from the Kriss Soonik team about the brand’s 5th year anniversary and their wish to include my illustrations in their celebration. I was more than happy to do it!

Pictures13

What was the inspiration behind the SS16 illustrations?

The star of SS16 illustrations was the iconic catwoman, who is the interpretation of a wicked, seductive, independent and cool modern woman. We also wanted to add some cute cliché roses to make the overall look romantic.

How would you describe your personal style?

I’m a minimalist in love with lavish details.

What’s your personal favorite piece from the collections and why?

It’s undeniably amazing to see the pieces with my illustrations, but besides that I absolutely adore the new blush pink toned garments and the surprising add of denim fabric.

SS16 Top Fashion Trend

From Givenchy to Balenciaga, Burberry Prorsum, Celine and Moncler Gamme Rouge, underwear gets the spotlight on the SS16 catwalks. Lingerie is setting the direction for outerwear – finally the trends are catching up with what we have been doing the past few years 😉

Pictures4

Reveal your innate sensuality by taking off layers. This is a trend for the bold – leave a bit of lace peeking out here and there or show off the cheeky suspender detail on the bra strap.

Pictures2
Details make a difference. Make them the focus of your outfit, as seen at Lanvin and VETEMENTS. Don’t hide what’s supposed to be inside and change the traditional way you wear lingerie to update your look and set it apart from the masses.

For Spring/Summer 16 we have used the humble suspender detail in new and unexpected places – on bra straps, knickers and the halterneck elastics of tops and slips. The suspender clip is a functional piece as well as an adornment. Upgrade your bra game by wearing the straps criss-crossed or just show off the detail as it is.

SS16 campaign moodboard

The SS16 campaign shoot titled “The Cat that Walked by Herself” has been inspired by all independent, stubborn and gorgeous women.

The focus point is on a girl in her garden doing what she wants, however silly that may be. She is exactly who she really is – a bit goofy, but incredibly beautiful and completely unaware of it. Even if she notices someone staring at her from the bushes, she doesn´t really care. She is so comfortable in her own company and can easily entertain herself. No help needed.

I believe we achieved exactly what we aimed for with the shoot – a celebration of independence and self-confidence. Check out the end result in our lookbook gallery.

Making of a Photoshoot

End of June we shot our next Spring/Summer 16 collection. Yes, 1 year in advance! It’s always a stressful time, a lot of last minute pre-panic to get the shoot day run smoothly. But what really happens behind the scenes before the shoot? This is how we do it.

Collection
For us everything starts with the collection. It sets the mood and the story. Throughout the design process, which usually takes about 6 months, I gather all sorts of pictures online or cut them out from magazines. A month before the shoot it all gets serious as we pull together the best bits that create the final moodboard. Pinterest is a great place to get inspiration and keep all finds at one place.
Once the shoot concept is in place, we’ll share the ideas with our shoot team, so everyone can contribute to the final moodboard.

Model & The Team
We try to work with the same people as much as possible but every now and then new blood brings fresh life to the images and the brand. The photographer, the hair and make-up artist, location scout – everyone has to understand the brand concept and the story.

The choice of the model is crucial. It’s a brand from women to women, so we look for free-spirited, quirky, cool and fun girls that embody the brands ethos. No regular pouting pin-ups but girls that are sexy without knowing it. Finding the right girl is time consuming but when you finally find your girl, it makes the shoot run oh so smoothly.

Location
The story and purpose of the shoot define whether the photoshoot will happen in a studio or somewhere at a location. A big role is also played by seasonality – is it an Autumn/Winter or Spring/Summer collection?

Our latest shoot for SS16 took place in Estonia where we do most of our shoots. The weather in Tallinn is always unpredictable, so even though it had been quite nice and warm, on the day a very cold wind arrived and the conditions become freezing. The team was all wrapped up in coats and scarves while our brave model fought the cold and managed to pull a very “summery” face. We joked that at least it wasn’t raining.
