Tell us a little bit about your personal style.
I love comfortable jeans, a simple tank top and a nice pair of boots worn with feminine pieces of semi-precious stones like rose quartz, amethyst etc. My long hair also plays a big part in my look and gives a subtle bohemian touch to my personal style.
What kind of things/people inspire you?
I’m inspired by a work well done, passionate people and mostly by my sweet little baby boy.
We know that you have a cat tattoo on your ankle – what does it symbolize for you?
I find cats very mystical and independent. For me they symbolize freedom and sensuality.
What´s your favourite piece from the Kriss Soonik collections? Why? I love the turtle neck piece because it’s like second skin – the fabric is so soft and comfortable.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Never go against your intuition just to avoid saying ‘no’ or hurting someone. The only one you can hurt by ignoring your inner guidance is yourself.
The AW14 campaign shoot has been inspired by our title of the collection “Get your rabbit out”.
Yes, we know that this sentence has many meanings. Some naughtier than others. But for us it´s all about the Estonian expression “Get the rabbit out of your trousers” which means be yourself, be brave and get out there!
It´s usually the women who are shown as fragile creatures but in this shoot the tables have turned. It´s the girl with the strong character, an independent creature. She enjoys her own company. She´s a mysterious spirit, who´s into voodoo and witchcraft. Maybe she is a werewolf. Maybe not.
The bunny boy is a fragile character. He is cute and adorable but not strong enough to get the girl. Only when the girl decides to want him, she´ll take him. He has to build a strong character for himself to be desirable. So his only way of getting into the girl´s house is by letting go of his fears and be brave.
Last week we hosted our AW14 collection launch and private shopping event in the heart of the West-End – Covent Garden Hotel.
From our lovely customers, to press and bloggers, we had the pleasure to meet all the people who came and made the night even better than we could’ve imagined.
The launch took place in a small and cosy room where people could take a first look at the new collection, have a glass of wine and enjoy the company of other beautiful people who had turned up.
The new collection itself “Get your rabbit out” has been inspired by an Estonian saying which encourages women to be independent and push boundaries. You could find hints of jersey, lace and little Marabou puffs which are like fluffy bunny tails and can be removed if wanted and replaced with signature satin bows.
Cosy up. Elegantly, please!
Every Autumn and Winter we shift towards the warm and comfy. Focus on materials that make us want to cosy up while staying sexy and elegant.
The star of this season is the soft and sumptuous Italian ribbed viscose jersey. Next to our decadent signature French lace and naughty mesh, the combination is bold and beautiful (yes, I just wrote that…).
Adventures in Brazil
Lime green mixed with grey, burgundy and black – combinations that shouldn´t work but work so very well. But then again, I designed most of the collection while travelling in Brazil. Rio de Janeiro, Fortaleza, Jericoacoara – the powerful natural colour statements mixed with the man-made greyness is something that strikes you over and over again in that country.
Get your rabbit out
The AW14 collection has been inspired by an Estonian expression “Get the rabbit out of your trousers” which means be yourself, be brave and get out there! As well as the phrase representing the whole ethos of the brand, it has also literally influenced the collection – little Marabou puffs reminding fluffy bunny tails have been used as a playful detail on our signature pieces – suspender tops, lace lingerie sets and luxe loungewear. And the best thing about them, they are removable!
One of my main muses throughout the years has been Audrey Hepburn. Her free spirit and effortless style keep charming me over and over again. “What would Audrey do?” is often the starting point of a new collection. But this season we added a touch of rock ´n´ roll into the mix. No doubt that when Kate Moss becomes a cheeky Playboy bunny, it will turn into a reference point for our bunny-inspired collection.
On my last trip to New York I had the pleasure to witness the first batch of our collections being launched in the coolest fashion boutique in the world – Opening Ceremony.
Founded in 2002 by two friends Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, Opening Ceremony has been flying high – they have become from a quiet street shop in downtown Manhattan to a worldwide sensation. Their unique fashion offering and the way they have experimented with their marketing is just pure creativity. I´m usually not into buying coffee table books but Opening Ceremony´s 10th anniversary book is one that every once in a while when I get stuck in a creative rut, I flick through to get my inspirational juices flowing.
I had the honour to meet their fantastic New York sales team for a breakfast clinic – talking about the brand, our inspirations and the journey so far. There were about 15 sales assistants and store managers asking very spot-on questions about the world of designer lingerie which was a real eye-opener even for myself. One of my favourite questions had to be “What do you love and hate most about luxury designer lingerie?” Answer: I love the creativity of designer lingerie and hate the traditional norms of luxury lingerie.
For Opening Ceremony the Alison Bra & Knickers (future classics, I´m sure) from our AW14 collection come in three colour-ways with a removable cheeky Marabou puff. The Electric Blue with white Marabou puff is an exclusive for Opening Ceremony! So go grab them from their New York boutique at 35 Howard Street.
Kriss Soonik AW14 collection launches on our website Thursday 4th September. New stockist alert – Opening Ceremony
Planning my wedding has been one of the most enjoyable things I have ever done in my life. Thank you to my husband for this opportunity! Yes, it was stressful at times but with such amazing people around me luckily I didn´t turn into a Bridezilla. Here´s a little insight into how my outfit came together for this special day.
I had never imagined myself wearing a puffy, whipped cream cake-like wedding dress. It was always going to be something simple. As you probably know I am a fan of quirky details, so while I knew the wedding dress would be simple, I also knew it had to have something that made it really special.
The idea of trousers was generated by my mother while we were going through heaps of fashion magazines (yes, fashion, not bridal magazines). My husband claims he remembers me from highschool when I was 14. He was then 18 years old. Sounds romantic, but I think he only remembers my cool wide Wrangler jeans that I got from a second hand shop, not me. So definitely the choice of wide palazzo pants was a bit symbolic. And a complete surprise to him.
Our signature Silvia Lace Bra in Honeymoon White was quite a last minute addition. From day to day I live in the Silvia style, so to make it more special, we customized the edges with small white pearls. These pearls turned out to be my only touch of jewellery. In all honesty I was really happy with the choice of wedding lingerie – no push up, no wires, it was incredibly comfortable and didn´t harrass me in any way. I forgot I was wearing it.
The gorgeous pink hat once belonged to my great-great-great-grandmother who brought it from her first ever international trip to New York. The year was 1970 and she was 86 years old. Initially the hat was much brighter but we spray painted it to make it more subtle and lighter.
As the whole wedding was by the sea on small rocks and grass, it proved much harder to find the right shoes. They had to be wedges to survive the big day. After a lot of research I found the perfect shoes in London by my favourite brand United Nude. I fell in love with them immeditely and will wear them many, many more times in the future I am sure.
Our guests entitled my bridal look as Hippy Mermaid. And I enjoyed every moment of being one! Such a shame that it´s a once in a lifetime thing…
Now that our #ksworldtour Paris month is coming to an end, Kriss picks 5 of her favourite things in the City of Love.
On the morning of our #ksworldtour Paris breakfast I had one task before the event – pick up the mini croissants & pain au chocolats for our guests.
When I entered Maison Julien on Franlin Roosevelt avenue, the smell of fresh pastries just blew me away. For a moment I really felt like a true Parisienne. I could really do this more often.
One of my favourite stores in Paris. Over the last couple of years it has definitely become more like a tourist attraction than a shopping destination but every time I’m in Paris I still pay a visit to this lifestyle/crazy fashion destination. From gummy bears to fur coats, you’ll find literally anything there.
Cycling in Paris
The best way to get around Paris is on a bike. I really enjoyed cycling on Saturday and Sunday when the streets were emptier. Even the little drizzle didn’t stop me from enjoying every minute of it. I cycle all the time in London but the wide Paris streets seemed much more cycle friendly.
The Four Seasons hotel bar is an unbelievably gorgeous place to meet for a drink. Massive fresh flower bouquets escort you from the lobby to the bar. My friend Mari invited me there saying that if I wanted to feel like a real Parisienne, this is the place to be. I must say, the visit there sure made me a couple of inches taller.
Silvia Lace Bra & Maike Lace Knickers
Like the French blogger Adenorah is obsessed with our Silvia Lace Bra and Maike Lace Knickers Set, so are we. This luxe lingerie set has definitely been inspired by true French chic. It´s simple with amazing details. It´s everyday glam. Although we now have 7 colours to choose from, Black is still everyone’s firm favourite – sexy made easy.
On our last trip to Paris we talked about lingerie and life in Paris with 2 amazing women living and working in the French capital.
Florence Abelin is the owner of our stockist Mise En Cage – one of the most luxurious private lingerie boutiques in Paris. On top of being a boutique owner she´s also a stylist, will launch her very sexy lingerie line in September and runs a PR agency. We always receive the most amazing photos of our pieces from Florence. Like the above image of the red Silvia & Maike Fishnet Set. Adore!
What do you think why do Mise en Cage customers like Kriss Soonik?
I think my clients like Kriss Soonik brand because the design is very simple with lovely signature details like the gold button and the black bow. It is very easy to wear everyday and the tops can be also be worn as outwear in the summer combined with denim dungarees or an open white shirt.
Insider tip to Paris?
My fave address in Paris is definitely Shine concept store located in le Marais 15 rue de Poitou. I really like their brands selection: Carven, Kenzo, Alexander Wang… I also love the department store le Bon Marché that selects high end pret-à-porter and accessories designers and of course I would reckon Mise en Cage private boutique as the most luxurious and the best lingerie boutique in Paris.
Mari Lakspere is an equally busy woman. On top of having a dream job of working for one of the wizards of fashion – Alaïa, she also runs her own beauty company. We managed to grab her for 5 minutes and ask these quick questions.
What is your favourite piece from the Kriss Soonik collections?
Susan Motion Body in different styles and textures, especially the fishnet version!
How do you style your Kriss Soonik pieces?
I wear the bodies under sleeveless dresses. I have several Alaļa and Givenchy dresses that look quite ‘open’ and a lace body adds the right touch to my outfit… a lace body under a simple well cut black dress gives also the right finishing for the evening!
3 favourite places in Paris?
1) Open air terrace on the top of Hotel Raphael in summertime, 5 min walk from the Arc de Triomphe.
2) Open air market on Rue Cler in the 7th – fresh fruit and veggie outlets mixed with french cafés, ideal place at the weekends for the fruit shopping and meeting friends!
3) Restaurant ‘Chez Janou‘ in the Marais neighbourhood, close to Place des Vosges, reasonably priced lively Provencal bistro. Highly recommended to make a reservation.

The epitome of a cool French girl. The casual yet chic style she pulls off so effortlessly gives her such a fresh look. We´d love to see her in our sportier styles – Kristel Polo Suspender Top and Silvia Mesh Set would definitely fit into her wardrobe well.
A woman that doesn´t need introduction. Her sexy yet innocent vibe has equally seduced men and women over many decades. Black is the word that would describe best the styles that we picked for Brigitte´s wardrobe. The Classic Kristel Suspender Top and Splash! Swimsuit work best for their simple yet feminine touch.
Joséphine de la Baume
Sexy, strong, fun-loving and oh so rock and roll. Show me one girl who doesn´t want to be like that? Bold looks that will turn heads. We picked the Kristel Fishnet Suspender Top and the best-selling Silvia lace bra for Joséphine´s dream wardrobe.
This month #ksworldtour heads to the city of love – Paris – to celebrate our 5th anniversary.
On Monday we hosted a breakfast in Paris to preview the next Spring/Summer 2015 collection to boutiques around the world. Guests from USA, France, Germany & Ukraine enjoyed croissants and pain au chocolat´s while browsing through the new collections.
Kriss Soonik SS15 collection has been inspired by the duality of ballet – the softness of the dancers outfits and the perceived easiness of the movements vs the powerful technical precision of the dance. The collection is all about playing with extremes. Dainty beige-orange French Lace injects a pop of colour, black Snakeskin Mesh brings on a strong play with texture whilst Ribbed Jersey and Fishnet in white add a bridal touch to the collection.
We are really grateful that the Estonian Embassy in Paris agreed to host our event. The venue just off Boulevard Haussmann with large windows and a lot of natural light really matched the airy vibe and colours of the next Summer collections.
Our good friend Urmas has just launched a nutri-smoothie brand – Vikwäl – and he came along to energise our guests for the day. The smoothies really are wonderful, they sure kept me going for the whole busy day. No wonder Le Bon Marché is already stocking them.
A huge thank you to everyone who came for our breakfast and we can´t wait to host another event like this soon.
