Last Wednesday we ended the #ksworldtour with a big bang in London when Ace Hotel in Shoreditch became the playground for cute catwomen.
The views of London´s City skyline with Guy Fawkes Day fireworks couldn´t have been a better backdrop for the mingling party people. With big balloons and champagne it really felt like a birthday party every 5 year old would dream of.
Guests, including singer Marina Diamandis of Marina and the Diamonds, designer Patrick Grant, TV presenters Lilah Parsons & Olivia Cox, filled the floor with sexy moves dancing to the beats of DJ Paula Goldstein.
This was definitely a worthy end to a year filled with 5th anniversary events around the world. Thank you to everyone who joined us. Hope you had a blast! See you all very soon.
As you know this year Kriss Soonik is celebrating its 5th birthday. With these years some styles have become so popular that they now make up our best-selling Classics collection.
The collection always evolves. The latest addition being the long-sleeves Susan Lace Top in Black. And as we are constantly adding new items to the range, we decided to give the collection a fresh new look and re-shot the pieces just in time for Christmas. They are also perfect, fool-proof, gifts (hint, hint).
At the moment you´ll be able to shop all the Black pieces in our boutique but there´s more to come! Beginning of 2015 we’ll also launch White and brand new Nude colours on our website. We´ll keep you updated.
Of all the #ksworldtour destinations this year, Tallinn is of course the most personal. Being from Tallinn but living abroad always makes me nostalgic about the city. I really like how the town is developing and it´s always a pleasure to go back and visit new places that are popping up around town. Here are 5 of my favourites when in Estonia.
In the heart of the city, in Solaris shopping centre, you will find a very naughty yet cute store – Ulakas Kaunitar (Naughty Beauty). It is the only shop in Estonia selling exclusively Kriss Soonik collections and the only shop in the world selling our entire collection. From next week you´ll also have the chance to see the powerful Golden Needle (looks more like a sword) on display. The needle was awarded to us at Tallinn Fashion Week for Fashion Designer of the Year title.
One very nice café/restaurant off the beaten track with close proximity to the sea. This is the up and coming area of Tallinn, so the sooner you go there the better. They have a lovely garden that´s great for Summer lounging. The café also has an Estonian design shop Estonian Design House where you can get acquainted with local product and fashion designers.
This is what I call home. I know for a lot of locals living in Old Town seems an impossible task but at the right location it´s quiet and beautiful. The proximity to everything is priceless especially when you come from big cities. I am a junkie for Town Hall Square (just ignore most restaurants there) especially during Christmas time. Another reason why locals don´t like Old Town is because it has lost it´s authenticity. Most restaurants are expensive and meant only for tourists, so you won’t get to see many cool kids around. But luckily things are changing – places like Must Puudel, Frank & Paar Veini all have added a bit of young blood to Old Town.
When in Estonia, this is one of my favourite things! Estonians are similar to our Nordic neighbours being used to the Finnish sauna. I really miss it when in London because the London ones are not the real thing. What is the real thing? The wood stove sauna, with real fire. Most Estonians have a sauna at home, so being local it´s not that big of a deal, it´s more like a daily or weekly routine. And of course be prepared to get naked!
Diana Wings Wrap
We had decided to include the Kristiina Suspender Top as the product of the month. It´s a perfect mix of sexy, comfy & warmth. After all the idea for the top was influenced by the Nordic climate and the jersey underwear Estonians wear to keep warm.
But when we were in Estonia the weather got even colder. The season of “curling up on a sofa with a hot cup of tea” had arrived. And instead we picked the red Diana Wings Wrap for the Tallinn month. Now available with free monogramming service – it´s the perfect gift!
In exactly one week it´s time to host yet another fashion show for Kriss Soonik. It will take place during Tallinn Fashion Week Golden Needle gala where the brand has been nominated for the Fashion Designer of the Year award.
But what really goes into the making of a fashion show? Here are the 4 most important elements for us when organising a catwalk show. After the actual collection, of course…
Gorgeous models Girls full of confidence, energy and charm are key to a cool fashion show. And making backstage life more fun! We usually create characters for the girls they can become on stage. In the past we´ve had for example the modern, independent Snow White and The Desperate Mousewife – a mouse girl with a cat fetish – strutting the catwalk.
Welcome to our world
We always put together an inspiration board before the show to get everyone involved on the same wavelength, and to make sure hair, make-up and styling teams are working with the same vision in mind.
The collection we´ll be showing at TFW gala is an extended AW14 – adding special show pieces especially created for the event. A little secret: there´s been some experimenting with our signature piece – the suspender top – giving it a more Nordic climate look.
Here´s a sneak peek of next week show´s moodboard.
Fashion shows are big productions – a lot of hard work for a max 10 minute result. Therefore the Kriss Soonik shows are never just about girls walking on the catwalk presenting the latest collections. We want it to be an experience for the viewers. We want them to get positive emotions to take back home with them. Showing lingerie on stage is sexy enough, so usually our mission is to push people to think beyond the fact that girls are wearing underwear and make them laugh.
Last year, as you know, we sent the girls on stage wearing 7 Dwarfs masks – balancing beauty, femininity and fun.
Mad about Music
Music is something that inspires me most when designing. We always use well known songs or quite well known songs from different eras. My favourites are the ones that are a bit forgotten. They used to be awesome but time moved on. Our songs are quite strong, energetic, sometimes even a bit angry.
Here´s our playlist from last year´s fashion show. Some songs didn´t make the final cut but kept us up when working late hours.
In exactly a week´s time, we´ll be able to share all images and behind the scenes action of our AW14 fashion show.
We´d love to present you 3 very talented and gorgeous girls straight from the capital of Estonia.
It´s no secret that Estonian women are beautiful, hard-working and independent. But these girls push these terms to the next level. All of them have inspired me so much, and been such great friends, that they now all have pieces from our collections named after them.
Here they share their insider tips for your next visit to Tallinn.
Name: Katrin Emmus Age: 30 Job: interior architect / set designer
Favourite place in Tallinn? It’s a small cafe called Kohalik, in one of Tallinn’s hip areas Uus Maailm. I can sit there for hours. The food is delicious, service is super-sweet and the atmosphere is home-like.
What advice would you give someone visiting Tallinn for the first time?
Don’t “get stuck” in the old town! We all know that it’s a fairytale-like place in a must-see list when visiting Tallinn, but try to find at least a day (or two!) to take a walk in the Kalamaja region. Our so-called hipster-area, where all the houses are wooden, streets are much narrower and people seem to have a constant ‘keep-smiling’ look on their faces. All the small businesses, bakeries, restaurants, galleries, flea-markets and other ‘hidden extras’ add a certain charm to the whole area.
Favourite Kriss Soonik piece? Glitter Wings Wrap
How do you wear/style your Kriss Soonik piece?
I enjoy matching my Susan Chic Lace Body with a pair of ripped skinny jeans – the contrast of these two pieces is fabulous (and sexy ;)! I also adore the fact that the -Glitter Wings Wrap (which I usually tend to wear as a dressing gown) can be worn as a light jacket so easily. I just tie the silk belt from behind (on my back).
Name: Ruthie Belle Age: 31 Job: entrepreneur in beauty industry
Favourite place in Tallinn? Christmas Market at Raekoja Plats (Town Hall Square)
Insider Tip to Tallinn?
Come here either in the summer or when there’s snow. Also, beauty treatments in Tallinn are absolute top notch so get everything done before you head back home!
How do you wear/style your Kriss Soonik piece?
I wear my Susan Motion Body with high heels, jeans, cropped jacket and red lips!
Name: Diana Treu Age: 31 Job: Hair wizard
Favourite place in Tallinn? So, my favorite place or should I say area in Tallinn is definitely Kalamaja with it’s flourishing bohemian atmosphere.
What advice would you give to someone visiting Tallinn for the first time?
For a person visiting Tallinn for the first time I would recommend venturing beyond the walls of Old Town to get a more authentic experience. Places like Kalamaja, Telliskivi, Kadriorg or Pirita are all popular with locals.
How do you wear/style your Kriss Soonik piece?
I wear the Kristel Suspender Top with Long Sleeves during winter as a sexy alternative to warm underwear. Otherwise I pair it up with jeans, skirts or just stockings 🙂
In October #ksworldtour heads to Tallinn – the beautiful capital of Estonia. Throughout the month we´ll show you the best this city has to offer.
Tallinn is special for the brand not only because it´s the birthplace of Kriss but also because this is where all the Kriss Soonik collections are manufactured.
The highlight of the month will be the Kriss Soonik fashion show on the 23rd October at Tallinn Fashion Week, where the brand has been nominated for Kuldnõel – Fashion Designer of the Year award. On top of the AW14 collection we´ll be showing some brand new pieces made especially for the show. Fingers crossed.
Last year we sent the 7 dwarfs on stage. Who knows what happens this year? We´ll sure keep you posted with all behind the scenes activities on social media.
Tell us a little bit about your personal style.
I love comfortable jeans, a simple tank top and a nice pair of boots worn with feminine pieces of semi-precious stones like rose quartz, amethyst etc. My long hair also plays a big part in my look and gives a subtle bohemian touch to my personal style.
What kind of things/people inspire you?
I’m inspired by a work well done, passionate people and mostly by my sweet little baby boy.
We know that you have a cat tattoo on your ankle – what does it symbolize for you?
I find cats very mystical and independent. For me they symbolize freedom and sensuality.
What´s your favourite piece from the Kriss Soonik collections? Why? I love the turtle neck piece because it’s like second skin – the fabric is so soft and comfortable.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Never go against your intuition just to avoid saying ‘no’ or hurting someone. The only one you can hurt by ignoring your inner guidance is yourself.
